"Deep Play: Notes ont he Balinese Cockfight" First Response

This was an intersting and yet kind of a boring read. It was interesting because I didn't know anything about the culture of Balinese or cock fighting itself and now I have a lot of information on it. It was boring because it seemed to me like he repeated himself about 10% of the time and because he put information into the essay that didn't really seem that relevant. It was really long when he could've shortened it.

This essay kind of reminded me of College Football - especially the BSU Broncos. The reason for this is because if you'll read #3 in the section "Playing with Fire", it reads, "If an outsider cock (an outsider football team) is fighting any cock from your village (is fighting BSU), you will tend to support the local one." It also states just a bit earlier, "Consider, then, as support of the general thesis that the cockfight (the football games), and especially the deep cockfight (the major college football bowls - like the Fiesta Bowl) is funamentally a dramatization of status concerns(what our ranking will be)."
