First Response "In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens"

I could feel the passion Walker portrays as I read the essay. I thought it was really sad how black people were treated back in the old days. They couldn't do anything. Against the law to "read and write"? What kind of crap is that? I'm glad things are different, but this story shows how strong, black women always were, are today, and will continue to be in the future.
